A new squadron, the 170th Air Refueling Squadron has been activated on march 6th 2024 as part of the 108th Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard based at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in southern New Jersey.
Budgetized for Fiscal Year 2023, the newly activated Air National Guard Squadron will be part of a new mechanism allowing the 108th Wing to reinforce another Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst unit: the 305th active duty Air Mobility Wing. Under this arrangement, the 141st and newly created 170th Air Refueling Squadrons both under the umbrella of the 108th Wing will deploy their ressources to help the active duty 305th Air Mobility Wing operate its fleet of KC-46 Pegasus tankers.
The 305th Air Mobility Wing already comprises the 6th Airlift Squadron operating C-17 Globemaster IIIs along with the 2nd and 32nd Air Refueling Squadrons both operating KC-46 Pegasus tankers
Lt Col Matthew J. Secko will command the new 170th Air Refueling Squadron and the approximately sixty airmen serving in it.
